I saw something the other night that really warmed my heart. My bride and I were doing one of our favorite things, heading to La Plaza to eat supper. As we were driving down Cox Pike, I noticed a yard all lit up with Christmas lights. The funny thing was, Christmas lights are usually either red and green or solid white. These were yellow and brown. I said to myself, “Self, that’s interesting”. As we got closer, I noticed a big sign in the yard that read “Happy Thanksgiving.” I almost made Marie pull over so I could go knock on their door and give those folks a hug! In case you haven’t noticed, for many people, we are right in the middle of what is known as the Christmas season. It generally starts right after Halloween and runs all the way to the new year. This just in, they are already playing Christmas songs on Way FM! In our society, Thanksgiving is the red-headed stepchild of holidays. When you think about it, Thanksgiving really does come at an inconvenient time. I mean, we spend Thanksgiving Day being thankful for all the blessings we have been given, and then the very next day is Black Friday, which is all about buying more stuff and buying it right now. But you know, when I think about it, Thanksgiving is actually more than a holiday. Thanksgiving is an attitude. We should strive to be thankful 24 hours a day, seven days a week. So, thank you, Thanksgiving Light people, for reminding me and the rest of Fairview to slow down, count our blessings, and be thankful for what God has given us. I’ll end with a story that has made the rounds on social media in many different forms, but to me, it captures the spirit of Thanksgiving perfectly. One Sunday morning at a small country church, the pastor called on an old farmer to lead in the opening prayer. The farmer stood up, bowed his head, and said, “Lord, I hate buttermilk.” The pastor opened one eye and wondered where this was going. The farmer continued, “Lord, I hate lard.” Now the pastor was totally perplexed, but the farmer continued, “Lord, I ain’t too crazy about plain flour. But after you mix ’em all together and bake ’em in a hot oven, I just love biscuits.” “Lord, help us to realize when life gets hard, when things come up that we don’t like, whenever we don’t understand what You are doing, that we need to wait and see what You are making. After You get through mixing and baking, it’ll probably be something even better than biscuits. Amen.” I hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving and don’t eat too much. Let’s remember, Thanksgiving isn’t just a holiday. It’s an attitude. An attitude of gratitude.

Be blessed and go be a blessing . . . Bro Andy
