Wisdom or Your Opinion?

August 9, 2026
Have you ever paid attention to who gets noticed most often at school, work, or perhaps even in social settings? Quite often, it is the loudest, most outgoing person in the group. We tend to equate loud and boisterous with knowledge and wisdom. Way back in 2009, Al Gore predicted that by the mid 2010’s the polar ice caps would melt. He talked a lot about global warming and climate change. Today, the polar ice caps are still in place, and many of the global catastrophes predicted by Gore and others have yet to occur (that doesn’t mean they won’t, but still). During the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, Bill Gates offered a lot of advice on how we should live our lives amid the turmoil. Turns out, a lot of his advice was misleading at best and just plain wrong at worst. Today, famous actors and actresses give all kinds of advice on everything from skin care to politics. This just in. Al Gore was a politician and Vice President, not a scientist, even if he did invent the internet. Bill Gates might know a lot about computers and such, but why in the world should we take medical advice from him? He isn’t a doctor, and he doesn’t even play one on TV. Actors and actresses? They are just people like us. However, their reality and most of our realities aren’t even on the same planet. Yes, all of these people have opinions, but their opinions aren’t any more or less important or right than the next person's. My Bible “verse of the day” weighs in on this topic. “Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.” James 3:13. We don’t have to be the life of the party or the person who knows it all to have influence on other people. God gave us two ears and one mouth for a reason. Let’s learn to be humble, listen twice as much as we talk, and quietly help others as we go about our day. With all that said, I just read that Chicago Cubs player Pete Crow-Armstrong tells us that Babe Ruth never existed. The fun never stops.
Be Blessed and then go be a Blessing . . . Bro. Andy
