You Do Not Know When the Time Is

Marie and I attended Bobby Green's visitation last Sunday. While waiting in line, my mind began to ponder on something. One piece of advice a good coach gives his players is to keep their heads on a swivel. What he or she means by that is to always pay attention. This is also good advice for life. We should always pay attention to our surroundings, lest we fall into mischief or worse. Jesus gave His followers that same advice in Mark 13:33, “Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is.” In its context, this statement is a warning from Jesus, telling His followers to pay attention because we have no clue when He will return. However, there are many other things in our lives about which we don’t know the time. For instance, we don’t know which trip to the doctor’s office will result in a serious medical diagnosis. Since we don’t know when that will happen, we should always stay alert and pay attention to the signals our bodies are sending us. Not only do we not know the time of our next serious medical diagnosis, but taken one step further, we don’t know the time of our deaths either. Therefore, we should live life with a real awareness that today could be it. Roughly 150,000 people will die today, many of whom will be unprepared. We also don’t know when our next opportunity to share Christ with someone will be. Are we even looking for that opportunity? As Christ followers, we should be. Sharing Jesus with the lost is what we have been commissioned to do for as long as we have breath left in us. We also don’t know when the next opportunity to lend a hand to someone else will occur. Are we on the alert for opportunities to help, or are we living our lives oblivious to the hurt and suffering so many people around us are experiencing?” It’s time to wake up and get busy, y’all. Let’s stop living our lives like we have all the time in the world, because we don’t.

Be Blessed and go be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
