Yes, It Could Have Happened!

I could have passed away in my sleep last night, but I didn’t. As I got out of bed this morning, I could have tripped over my house shoes, and as I was falling, I could have hit my head on the corner of the nightstand and ended up in the hospital, or worse, but I didn’t. I might have slipped in the shower this morning, falling face forward, knocking myself out and drowning because my face was in the water collected at the bottom of the bathtub, but I didn’t. There are so many things that could have happened to me this morning before I even got dressed. Do you know why they didn’t? First, I tried to watch where I was walking and what I was doing, but more importantly, none of these things happened to me because God was watching over me. If we would take the time to consider how many accidents from which God protects us on any given day, we might never leave the house! Last night Marie, Rileigh, and I were coming home from Huntsville, Alabama. It was late and we were all tired. As we came over the hill, the traffic was completely stopped. As we were waiting, a fire truck, police car and ambulance passed us and stopped at an intersection a couple of hundred yards in front of us. Forty minutes later, when were finally able to proceed, one of the vehicles involved in the accident was still in the middle of the intersection. It looked like a pretty bad crash. As we passed, we said a prayer for those involved and when we finished, Marie said, “That could have been us. Now there’s a Planks Ponderings for you.” While we were not happy to be parked for forty minutes, it could have been a lot worse. Aren’t you glad we serve and worship a God who is always on duty and is watching out for us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week? Turns out, many of our inconveniences are actually God’s sovereignty. So, as you proceed through your day today, watch where you are walking, watch where you are going, fasten your seatbelt, and be grateful that God guards your steps.

Be blessed and then be grateful . . . Bro. Andy
