Last weekend, I spent a lot of time with the grandkids. On Friday, my daughter and her best friend brought their kids over to the house. We had a good time playing hide-and-seek and flashlight tag. Flashlight tag was even better when the kids learned that one of them could hold the flashlight and Pa (that’s me) could just sit back and watch! We walked over to the fence, and the kids got to pet the donkeys. They were thrilled when one of the donkeys talked to them. Well, he didn’t exactly talk like Balaam’s donkey talked to him. He actually brayed, but the kids were thrilled, nonetheless. They also thought it was pretty cool when a flock of geese landed on the back pond. I must admit, I thought it was pretty cool myself. Every time I see geese land on the water, they remind me of airplanes landing on an aircraft carrier. Saturday, Marie and I went to see two of our other grandkids play basketball. The first game we watched was a five-and six-year-olds' game. It actually looked more like a wrestling match or a game of tag than a basketball game. The second game was between older boys, and it was fun to watch because they actually played basketball! Spending time with kids is good for us old people. As kids laugh and play, if you don’t watch out, you will be laughing, too. Seeing a child’s face light up when they discover something new, like the braying of a donkey, is a sight to behold. Watching kids just run around and be kids seems to lighten my mood and make me feel better. Do you know what else? Jesus said we need to be like little children in order to enter the kingdom of God. What does He mean by that? I think He means we should have the same characteristics as little children. Children are curious about everything, and when they learn something new, they get so excited and want to learn more. Their favorite word is “why.” Children are trusting. My granddaughter loves it when I hold her, then I let her go and catch her as she begins to fall. There is no doubt in her mind that I am going to catch her and not let her fall to the ground. As a Christ follower, are you curious about God and His word? Do you get excited to learn something new, and when you do, do you want to learn more? When times are hard or challenging, do you trust Jesus to catch you and not let you fall all the way to the ground?  I saw children on full display all last weekend, and after spending most of my time around adults, I discovered that we grown-ups have a long way to go.

Be Blessed and then go be a Blessing . . . Bro. Andy
