Just why did the chicken cross the road? I’ve asked myself this question and other questions like it most of my life. Why do you park on a driveway and drive on a parkway? When you send a package by car it is called a shipment, but when you send the same package by ship, it’s called cargo. Why is this? Everyone knows that a child’s favorite question is “why”. Let’s face it, as humans, most of us are curious as to how the world around us works and why things work out like they do. On a more serious note, when calamities happen like mass shootings, suicides, domestic arguments gone wrong, or someone is hit and killed by a drunk driver, we want to know why. There is a lot of discussion about releasing the Covenant school shooter’s manifesto so everyone can see it. The reason given for this is so that we can figure what motivated the shooter to commit this horrific crime, so we can prevent the same thing from happening again. While the motivation for this public release is good, the fact is, even if we can understand the motive for this shooting, it might not be the same motive when and if another shooting happens. While I am all for studying why these things happen and trying to prevent further incidents, the bottom line is, we live in a sin sick, fallen world. People (including ourselves if we are honest) are sinful and sinful people do sinful things for a bunch of different reasons. The biggest reason is, we want to (once again, that’s what sinful people do, we sin). The only cure for a sin sick world is Jesus. I know that might sound overly simplistic, but the older I get, the more I believe it. The only cure for my sinful life is Jesus. He’s the only cure for your sinful life as well. Our world needs Jesus; it just doesn’t know it. Fellow Christ-follower, let’s get busy looking like Jesus, sounding like Jesus, and living like Jesus. If we do, we can then point others to Jesus. Who knows, a new Jesus revolution might be just around the corner and THAT is just what this sinful messed up world needs.
Be blessed and be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
