Bragging Rights?

April 7, 2024

I heard a story today about a woodpecker who was busy pecking a tree while a thunderstorm was occurring. It just so happened lightning struck the tree the woodpecker was pecking and split it right down the middle. The woodpecker called all his friends over so he could brag about his pecking ability! While that story made me laugh, the more I thought about it, the more I realized there are a lot of people with the mindset of that woodpecker. For instance, a boy says, “My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a poem, they give him $50.” The second boy says, “That’s nothing. My Dad scribbles a few words on piece of paper, he calls it a song, they give him $100.” The third boy says, “I got you both beat. My Dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon, and it takes two people to collect all the money!” Then, there was the guy who said, “I don’t like to brag, but my psychologist said I have the biggest ego he's ever seen.” OK, I’ll stop now, but how many people have embellished the truth at one time or another to make us look “better” than we perceive ourselves to be? Christ follower, there may be people who can run faster than you, throw a ball farther than you, or type a report faster than you. However, you can rest easy because I have great news for you. When you get to the end of your pilgrimage on this earth, none of that will matter. When you open your eyes in eternity, you are a born-again child of God, and that’s enough! As the lyrics of a popular song tell us, “I’m the child of the Most-High God and the Most-High God is for me.” To borrow from the Apostle Paul, if the Most-High God is for you, who can be against you? If we know that, let’s start living like it!

Be blessed and be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
