What makes you tick?

August 30, 2020

What do you love to do? I mean, deep down in the center of your being, what makes you tick? I mean, if you didn’t have to pay the bills, raise the kids, or cut the grass. I read a verse this week that I have read many times before. As a matter of fact, I have even preached sermons about this verse. However, as familiar as I am with it, the verse has never struck me quite like this before. The verse is found in Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount recorded in Matthew 6. I’ll bet you are familiar with it too. The verse I am talking about is Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, your heart will be also”. How do we spend the biggest chunk of our time? For most of us it is working to pay the bills and raising our children and grandchildren and all the chores that go along with these things. Let me repeat that verse. “For where your treasure is, your heart will be also.” I am convinced that the greatest job in the world is raising our kids and grandkids. The legacy we leave for them carries eternal consequences. Remember the questions I asked you in the beginning of this paragraph? Go back and look if you need to. What do you love to do? I mean, deep down in the center of your being, what makes you tick? Let me add a couple more questions to the mix? What would your kids and grandkids say you love to do? What would your kids and grandkids say makes you tick? How about your husband or your wife? How would they answer those questions about you? If you stop and think about it, don’t our kids, grandkids, and spouse know us better that anyone else? At church or at work, we can talk a good game. We can spout spiritual platitudes and work hard. However, at home, we take the masks off and reveal our hearts. We also reveal our treasure. You see, we were made in God’s image. When we are born again, God takes up residence with us in order to give us a heart transplant. If our heart has been changed, shouldn’t the things we treasure be changed also. Let me remind you one more time “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” What do you love to do? I mean deep down in the center of your being, what makes you tick? How’s your heart?

Be blessed and be a blessing…Bro. Andy
