The Hats Our Mothers Wear

May 12, 2024

Mothers and Grandmothers, I don’t know how y’all do it because y’all wear so many different hats, sometimes all at the same time! Here are four examples from God's Word of mothers who made a difference in the lives of their children and wore many different hats. First, you wear the hat of protector - Exodus 2:1-4. Moses’ Mother made sure Moses was protected, even when he (especially when he) was in great danger. Godly mothers protect their children physically, morally, emotionally, and spiritually. Next, you wear the hat of supporter - 1 Samuel 1:24-28. Hannah had promised God that if she had a male child, she would give him to the Lord. Samuel was born and at an early age then taken to the Lord's house to be a servant. Hannah continued to support the boy by providing for his needs (1 Samuel 2:9). Hannah is a model for all parents of Christian children. Our children should be given over to the Lord for whatever purpose He has for them. Whatever the Lord chooses to do with that child, we, as parents, should be supportive. The next hat you put on is the hat of instructor - 2 Timothy 1:5 and 3:15. Timothy's mother and grandmother set the example of faith. Timothy was taught the Scriptures at a very early age and became a powerful influence for Jesus in his lifetime as a result. Finally, you wear the hat of loyalty - John 19:25. Mary was loyal to her son to the point of death. We need to be loyal to our children all the way to the end. This doesn’t mean we should approve of our children's sin. We should always set a godly example (frankly, a godly example may be one of the best things we can give our kids). We should, however, be loyal to our children wherever they are, and whatever they are doing (if it doesn’t go against God), they are our kids and need our support. Moms, grandmoms, and great grandmoms, enjoy your day, and keep on striving to be what God has called you to be.

Be blessed and go be a blessing! . . . Bro. Andy
