The Greatest Protector of All Time!

It looked like it was over for Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise. They had been surprised by a Klingon Bird-of-Prey and sustained extensive damage. The Enterprise couldn’t get her weapons to fire, and in the words of James T. Kirk, the situation was “grim.” Just as the Bird-of-Prey fires the shot that would send Kirk and company to that galaxy far, far away, we hear the voice of Scotty say over the radio, in his wonderful Scottish accent, “Captain, the shields are up.” With those words, Kirk and the Enterprise repel the Klingon attack and live to fight another day. I know all of that was fictional, but wouldn’t it be cool to have shields in real life? When you get in your car and drive out onto the street, you just push a button and poof, your shields are up, protecting you from the mayhem on the streets. Or if you find yourself in the middle of a crowd and everyone around you is sneezing and coughing, poof, up go the shields to protect you from all those pesky germs. I don’t know about you, but to me, that would be pretty amazing.  I know, I know, it’s all fiction. But what if it isn’t? What if I told you we do have a shield to protect us from the chaos of this life? Psalms 3:3-8 tell us, “But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill. I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me. I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people who have set themselves against me all around.  Arise, O Lord; Save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheekbone; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly. Salvation belongs to the Lord. Your blessing is upon Your people.”  While we will still have to deal with our share of “fiery darts” shot at us by the enemy, as Christ followers, it is comforting to know that in the midst of the battle, the LORD’s shields never fail, and we never have to repel those darts alone.

Be blessed and then go be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
