If I could come up with one word to describe our society today, I think I would use the word loud. It seems everyone wants to be heard and everyone wants to be heard right now. With the development of social media apps like Facebook, X (the app formerly known as Twitter), Instagram and others there are plenty of ways to express oneself with the click of a send button. This personal expression isn’t always subtle, in fact, it is often mean, cruel and hateful. It seems that since the poster can hide behind their phone or computer, people post on their social media feeds things they would never dream of saying in face-to-face conversations. This is especially true if the poster is using a handle (screen name) that allows them to remain anonymous such as imajerk012. Can I remind us all of something? Just because you can post something, doesn’t mean you should. I don’t have to contribute my two cents about everything I read on Facebook just because I can. As Christ followers, we must remember that our Christian witness follows us everywhere including social media. I see so many professing Christians posting a picture about how much they love Jesus one day and the next day they are telling the Facebook world how much they would like to punch so and so in the face because they are an idiot. There is a Bible passage we should remember and this passage applies to us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, wherever we are. That passage is James 3:8-12. James tells us 8”But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the [a]similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening? 12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs?” [b]Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh”. As Christ followers we can’t be praising Jesus one moment and celebrating Satan the next. Another verse we would do well to commit to memory is Romans 12:18… “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.’ By the way, that verse is a command, not a suggestion. Let’s remember who we represent all day, everyday and do our best to make sure that representation is Christlike.
Be blessed and go be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
