Rejoice in Every Day!

June 9, 2024

It’s Facebook’s fault. Yesterday as I was sitting in the waiting room of the doctor’s office, I was scrolling down my Facebook feed and ran across an article that was making the argument that the USA men’s basketball ‘Dream Team” of 1992, led by Michael Jordan and Larry Bird wasn’t as good as the 2012 team led by Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. I’m not an NBA fan, but I enjoyed the article very much, especially since the only other thing to read while waiting for the doctor was a magazine with an article titled “Me and My Gall Bladder”. Anyway, last night, because of that Facebook article, I had a dream. In my dream, these two “dream teams” came to Turney Center and played each other. In my dream the 1992 team wasn’t 20 years older than the 2012 team. They were the same age and seemed to be vey evenly matched. The 2012 team was ahead but then Michael Jordan did what MJ does and led a comeback. The teams were tied with two seconds left to play. Jordan was driving to the basket and…I woke up! No matter the outcome, this day was the greatest day in Turney Center history. The staff and inmates alike were agog (I’ve always wanted to use that word in a sentence) watching this battle of basketball superstars. Here is a question for you. What would it take for you to have your best day ever? Would it require you accomplishing a difficult feat? Would it be because you met a famous person? Speaking of famous people, once upon a time, while I was visiting the urologist, I saw Vince Gill and Amy Grant. Marie and I were walking down the hall toward the exit door and there they were, sitting in chairs in the hallway. As we exited the building I told Marie who I had seen and she asked why I didn’t say anything. I figured Vince wasn’t any happier than I was to be at the urologist’s office and didn’t need me to point that fact out to him. I also figured even superstars deserve to go to the urologist in peace. Turns out, that evening, he and Amy were playing a Christmas concert at the Ryman and he told the audience if he suddenly yelled real loud, he had finally passed the kidney stone that was giving him fits. Seeing them was a really good day, but you know what? As I left the urologist’s office that day, I still had kidney cancer and Vince still had his kidney stone so we were both still dealing with our troubles. By the way, do you know what my greatest day ever was and ever will be? It was the day I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ and trusted Him as my Savior. If you are a Christ follower, that is your greatest day as well. After that day, all the other days are just gravy. Oh, by the way, since God woke us up this morning, today is a really great day as well. It is in fact, it is a day that the Lord has made. We should rejoice and be glad in it.

Be blessed and be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
