A few weeks ago, Marie and I had just settled into our loveseat to watch a sappy Hallmark movie when a thunderstorm blew up. You could hear the rain falling, and I think it hailed for a bit, too. However, what made this storm memorable was the wind. We have had thunderstorms and wind before, so we weren’t too concerned. What did concern us was the loud boom we heard right outside our door. At first, we thought something on the deck had blown over, but then, we heard it again. And again. I got up to investigate, and when I looked out the window, I half expected to see the Wicked Witch of the West and her flying monkeys. While I didn’t see her or them, what I did see amazed me. We have a pagoda on our deck that weighs a few hundred pounds. The wind was lifting our pagoda straight up a couple of feet, then slamming it back down onto the deck. It did this several times. By now, we were really starting to get concerned. All this reminded me of a guy the news people were interviewing after a tornado had blown through. They asked him what he thought about it, and he replied, “I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I had known I was gonna live through it!” This whole wind-and-storm fiasco got me pondering another storm. This one is recorded in the Bible in Mark 4:35-41. The apostles are in a boat in the middle of the Sea of Galilee when a humdinger of a storm blew up. The apostles were pretty sure they were about to buy the farm, so they decided they had better turn to Jesus. Do you know where Jesus was? He was in the back of the boat sleeping! The frightened apostles woke Jesus up and told him that they were about to die, and they accused Jesus of not even caring. Do you know what Jesus did? He simply said, “Peace be still” and immediately the storm stopped.  Have you ever thought about how Jesus could sleep in the middle of a life-threatening storm? He knew He was bigger than the storm. This gives me great comfort. No matter how big the storm I am facing is, my Jesus is bigger! Jesus doesn’t promise us our lives will be storm-free. In fact, He tells us to expect storms in our lives. What Jesus does promise is that we won’t have to face our storms alone, and Y’all, that is enough.

Be blessed and then go be a blessing . . . Bro. Andy
