Perilous Times . . .

October 2, 2022 . . .

We are living in unprecedented times. Fear, chaos, doubt, anger, and confusion come at us from every side. I’m not sure if there has ever been a society that is as determined to call good evil and evil good than our world today. Sometimes, I think there has been a tear in the time space continuum and I have somehow been taken to an alternate universe, kind of like what happened to Marty McFly in “Back to the Future 2”. Unlike Marty, I don’t have a DeLorean to transport me home. We live in a society where most people believe there is no such thing as absolute truth. What is true for you might not be true for me and vice versa. According to “new math”, 2 plus 2 doesn’t always equal 4! This just in! We DO have absolute truth, and not only do we have absolute truth, but we have absolute truth from the Creator of the Universe Himself. Just like our society has developed a “me first” mentality, many Christ followers no longer look at the Bible as inspired by God. Church has become just another consumer driven product. We shouldn’t be surprised. II Timothy 3:1-5 tells us, “1But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” Paul wrote this letter to Timothy in approximately AD 64 but it sounds like Paul is writing it to us in AD 2022, doesn’t it? We Christians need to be reminded that the Bible isn’t merely a collection of wise sayings or moral teachings. The Bible is God’s word written to His people through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit Himself (See II Peter 1:16-21 and II Timothy 3:16-17). While we hear statements like “drain the swamp” and “make America great again” I promise you; politicians and government officials can’t fix what ails America. It is long past time for Christ followers to get back to a personal worldview shaped by God’s Word. God’s Word is absolute, unchanging truth. It is high time churches started equipping the sheep instead of entertaining the goats. There is truth. It is God’s truth and we need to make our stand on that truth rather than continuing to suppress the truth (See Romans 1:18). By the way, 2+2=4 no matter who is doing the figuring. God’s Word is God’s Word, no matter who denies it. Be blessed and then go be a blessing (by the way, that starts with being blessed by God’s truth and then sharing that truth with others). Changing our world starts with me . . .

Bro. Andy
