My Will or God’s Will?

I try to behave. I really do. All my doctors say to eat a healthy diet. However, as best as I can tell, what they really mean is don’t eat anything that tastes good. If it tastes good, apparently, it’s bad for you. I tell the docs that, and they reply, “Well, your palate just has to adjust.” So, using their theory, I suppose that if I ate only cardboard three meals a day, at some point, cardboard would taste like homemade banana pudding. This theory reminds me of a story I heard about a guy who asked his buddy what he fed his dog. His buddy replied that he fed his dog turnip greens. The first guy said that his dog wouldn’t eat turnip greens, to which the second guy replied, “Mine wouldn’t either, for a month.” I know my doctors are right, but I suppose the problem is that my desire to be healthy isn’t as strong as my desire to eat what tastes good, so far too often I disregard their advice and eat what tastes good. This same principle applies to spiritual matters as well. God has a path laid out for His children to follow. It is a good path that leads to rich fellowship and blessings with Him. I know God’s path is the best path for me to take. However, just as I sometimes disregard my doctors' advice, I also sometimes stray from the path God has for me. I’ll bet that you do too. In my mind, my path is what I need at the moment, so off I go. When it comes to consistently eating a healthy diet, I need the discipline to eat healthy foods regularly enough to get used to them. This is also true with following God’s path for my life. The more I die to myself and let the Holy Spirit lead me and change me, the more God’s ways become “normal” to me. They become my new nature, if you will. Here is a verse that might help us. “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” Galatians 5:16 NLT. Let’s pray for God’s help for us to let the Holy Spirit guide us, one decision at a time, so that God’s nature becomes our nature.

Be Blessed and then go be a Blessing . . . Bro. Andy
