October 13, 2019 . . . .
Unfortunately, our world is in such a hurry today. We have cars that can go 140 m.p.h. (although if the speed limit is 70 on the freeway, they should make vehicles with the maximum speed of 70...but that is a whole different thing). Most of us have cell phones and many of us have Blackberries and I-phones, as well. I saw a man the other day who had four cell phones clipped to his belt. He must have been either very important or very stressed. I thought about asking him if I should know who he was, but decided against it. We work 12, 14, and 16-hour days. Then we come home and pop dinner in the microwave, turn on the TV to see who shot whom on the news, and go to bed for a few hours, just to get up and do it all over again tomorrow. Have you ever seen a pet rat run in that little metal wheel with all his might? He is in a hurry, but he is getting nowhere fast. Isn't that the way we are these days (hence the term "rat-race"…I won't charge anything for that piece of trivia). I fear we are in such a hurry to get nowhere fast that we don't even take the time to slow down and listen for God about anything. The rat-race that many are living is taking us farther and farther away from God. Isn't that sin? How can God bless it or us? Especially if we don't slow down enough to talk with Him about it. Don’t get me wrong. We should still work hard and remember that we are representing the Lord in all that we do. However, we had better slow down enough to get our bearings straight with God or we will find ourselves being over-busy…doing the wrong things! I am going to rephrase my standard closing line. May God slow us down enough to be blessed and be a blessing this coming week.
