God is not just good...He is GREAT!

June 28, 2020

In dealing with people, I see that something many folks share, regardless of race, religion, economic status, or housing status, is a lack of hope. Many wring their hands over situations in which they find themselves. From disease to job despair; From environmental concerns to governmental control many, and I would even to venture a guess that it borders upon most, people feel a sense of hopelessness and helplessness. For those of us who are Christ Followers, we have an ace in the hole. We have the Word of God which is always true. God’s word, a library of sixty-six books that make up what we know as the Bible, can be counted on to bring truth into a society and culture that disregards truth as something that is unattainable. Our Postmodern world tells us that there is no set right and wrong, and that we are to do what seems right to us. In spite of our superior technology, man has not changed much. The writer of the book of Judges tells us that, “In those days, there was no King (truth) in Israel. Everyone did what was right in their own eyes,” Judges 21:25. God’s Word provided truth in an Old Testament culture thousands of years ago and it provides hope and truth for us today. Not only does the truth of God’s word give us hope and help in a world gone crazy, so does the fact that God’s presence is constant. God’s presence does not come and go like sunshine and clouds. God always is, always has been, and always will be. Just because things seem mixed up and out of control doesn’t mean that God has abandoned His throne and is on Sabbatical. Even though bad and sometimes horrific things occur in our lives and in our world, God is on His throne and He is in control. God is in the process of reconciling all things to Himself, and that gives me help and hope when things around me seem so uncertain. God’s word is true. God’s presence is constant, and a third source of help and hope is the fact that God’s power never wanes. God is, always has been, and always will be God. While man might do some “Magnificent things” our God put the sun in the sky, the spots on the zebra, a mane on the lion, and stretched the neck of the giraffe and called it all “good”. I have confidence that my God has the power to handle anything we humans might mess up. Finally, I find help and hope in the fact that God’s grace never runs out. In spite of my shortcomings and failings, God continues to shower grace after grace upon me each day. Things in my life are not always rosy. Things happen in my life and in my world that are beyond my control. However, God’s grace is bigger than all of that and continues to be enough to get me through each day. So, Chicken Little, quit yelling “The sky is falling”. It may very well be, but my God and your God is big enough to catch it!!

Be blessed and be a blessing….Andy
