Sometimes, when I prepare a sermon, much of what I study doesn’t make it to the pulpit on Sunday. The sermon last Sunday falls into this category. You might remember we were discussing the command “Don’t commit adultery.” We talked about how the intent of this command (especially the way Jesus uses it in Matthew 5:27-28) goes far beyond the physical act of adultery to address the unholiness that is in our hearts. We gave several examples of how the preoccupation with sex in our country is seen. We talked about pornography, homosexuality, transgenderism, and fornication. It was a heavy sermon, and I was pressed for time, so I intended to cover another area, but I just didn’t have time. I think it is important, so I will discuss it briefly now. It is that time of year when, as the weather warms up, the clothes come off! As Christ followers, we need to be aware of what we are wearing when we are out in public. While I am not advocating wearing suits and ties to Food Saver, I am advocating that we should wear clothes in public that cover up more than our underwear does. It doesn’t have as much to do with the type of clothing we wear as it does with the appropriateness of what we wear. As Christ followers, we should always dress modestly when we are out in public. The word modest literally means having the ability to blush. Y’all most of America quit blushing years ago. There are some who would argue that what they wear is their own business, and to a point, that is true. However, as Christ followers, we are held to a higher standard. Just as what we say and how we act tell a lot about how seriously we take our walk with Christ, so does what we wear. As your pastor, I am certainly not the fashion police, nor am I a censor of any kind. I simply try to take God’s and share it with you. What we wear, just like what we say and do, is a matter of individual conscience. However, I will close with this quote that I discovered while researching this sermon. The author of this quote didn’t stick with me, but the quote did. “What we say, what we do, and what we wear reveal the intent of our hearts,” and that about sums it up!
Be blessed and go be a blessing . . . Bro Andy
